International Workshop on AI and Education
İzmir Katip Çelebi University
11th July – 14th July 2025
Balçova Termal Hotel, İzmir, Türkiye
Introduction
The International Workshop on AI and Education, organized by the Institute of Social Sciences at İzmir Katip Çelebi University, invites anyone interested in AI-driven innovations in research, management, and teaching to a workshop led by respected scholars and experts from Türkiye’s AI community.
Why?
Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly become an integral component of the educational landscape, profoundly influencing research methodologies, teaching practices, and administrative operations within higher education. Recent studies reveal that AI adoption in higher education has surged, with 93% of institutional leaders anticipating greater utilization in the next two years (Ellucian, 2024). Furthermore, a global survey indicates that 86% of students are regularly incorporating AI into their studies, with 54% utilizing AI tools on a weekly basis (Digital Education Council, 2024a).
This swift integration of AI technologies has democratized data analysis, enabling educators and researchers to employ sophisticated analytical methods without requiring extensive backgrounds in data science. In the realm of teaching, AI-driven tools are facilitating adaptive learning environments and personalized educational experiences, thereby allowing educators to emphasize creativity and critical thinking. Administratively, AI streamlines processes, enhancing decision-making through data-driven insights, and optimizing resource allocation, contributing to greater institutional efficiency.
However, this rapid adoption is accompanied by notable challenges. Concerns regarding bias in AI models have escalated, with 49% of higher education professionals expressing apprehension in 2024, up from 36% the previous year. Similarly, data privacy and security concerns have risen from 50% to 59% in the same timeframe (Ellucian, 2024).
In response to these developments, İzmir Katip Çelebi University is organizing the "International Workshop on AI and Education: AI for Higher Education: Research, Management, and Teaching Innovations." The primary aim of this workshop is to equip educators, researchers, and administrators with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively and ethically integrate AI tools into their professional practices. By providing a platform for hands-on experience, critical discussions on ethical considerations, and exploration of practical applications, the workshop seeks to empower participants to harness AI's transformative potential responsibly and innovatively.
Objectives
The workshop aims to:
Introduce higher education participants to key AI tools utilized in teaching, research, and educational management.
Equip educational leaders with AI tools to enhance decision-making processes.
Provide a platform for discussing the ethical use of AI in teaching and research.
Offer hands-on practice in using AI tools for teaching and research.
Scope of the Workshop
The workshop will cover the following thematic topics:
Using AI for literature review and data analysis
AI applications in educational management
AI-based, student-centered teaching and learning strategies
Practical application sessions
Target Audience
The workshop is designed for academics in Türkiye, the EU, and developing regions (particularly Africa and Southeast Asia) where technology adoption is getting more recognition. It will be especially beneficial for:
